About the artist

Introducing Rich Caffrey, an artist whose works are often inspired by the grace and beauty of his natural surroundings, and the character and uniqueness of the person or wildlife species depicted. He is an accomplished and award-winning artist, working primarily in 3D Sculpture, 2D Pastel, Pen & Ink, Watercolor, and Graphite.

Rich's sculpture works over the past ten years have been constructed primarily in resin over a wire armature, but recently he completed a beautiful bald eagle piece entirely in wire. In his works he seeks to combine the sometimes opposing forces of beauty and power. This allows him to explore the lines and fluidity of the full body, as in ballerinas, animals, birds, and of nature, as in wind-swept trees. Many of his sculptures are award-winning pieces, including three recent pieces:
Golden at Work", "Gone Fishing" and "Gone Fishing, II". All are originals without copies and many are private commissions. These range in size from shelf/table-top to larger-scale pieces customized to highlight a particular home's architectural feature.

Rich has been able to focus his 2D work on the local surroundings including water, marinas, flora, and beach scenes. He is able to capture the details in nature using the impact of a broad and brilliant color palette of Pastel, and the distinctive linear elements of black and white in his Pen & Ink works. Two of his latest pastels, “Tidal Fingers” and "Beach Sunset", are award-winning pieces, as well as his latest Pen & Ink, "Chicago Underground". He has also recently begun doing graphite portraits, which reflect back to his training as a portrait sculpture artist.

It is Rich’s unique perspective of and insights about beauty that gives his work impact. Whether in a small graceful ballerina en pointe or a large beach sunset, the viewer will be captured by the impact and artistry of Rich’s work. Samples of commission pieces are shown in this website, and limited quantities of his art are routinely exhibited at local art shows in the Southport/Wilmington/Brunswick County, NC area. He also actively supports local charities with donated works for sale or auction.
